Julia Isidrez is a world renowned ceramic artist from Itá Paraguay who creates exquisite clay pottery. Descending from a family of ceramic artists, Julia learned traditional Abuela Guaraní techniques from her mother, Juana Marta Rodas. Isidrez hand builds bowls, pots, and plates out of dark polished clay that are adorned with heads and animal motifs. After firing them in a wood fire kiln her pieces emerge dark brown, black and smooth. From tradition Isidrez creates original, imaginative and expressive pieces that speak to the conditions of the present day that are works of contemporary art. Her work is featured in the Cartier foundation collection.
