About Gorobee Kiln – Tsutomu Buyo
Born in 1968 in Bizen City, Japan, Tsutomu Buyo is a Japanese ceramic artist and the successor of Gorobee Kiln, a pottery workshop rooted in the traditions of Bizen ware. After graduating from Tamagawa University in 1991, he trained at the Bizen Ceramic Center before joining Gorobee Kiln in 1995, where he began developing his own ceramic practice. In 2007, he took over the kiln, continuing its craftsmanship and artistic heritage. Specializing in flower vessels, plates, and functional ceramics, his work celebrates the natural beauty of clay through earthy tones, subtle textures, and traditional firing techniques. His creations, including the distinctive Hidasuki wood-grain trays, reflect a balance between Japanese pottery traditions, refined simplicity, and contemporary design.
