About Touzan Kimura
Born in 1970 into one of the six traditional Bizen kiln families, with a ceramic heritage spanning over 600 years, Touzan Kimura is a Japanese ceramic artist dedicated to preserving and reinterpreting the traditions of Bizen pottery. After graduating from Nagoya Gakuin University in 1994, he continued his artistic education at Escola Massana in Barcelona, where he studied for two years. His work combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary sensibilities, creating tea utensils, flower vessels, and sculptural objects characterized by refined forms, natural textures, and the expressive effects of firing. Deeply influenced by his family’s legacy, Kimura explores the relationship between tradition and modern living, balancing functionality with artistic expression. His creations have been presented internationally, including at the Vallauris International Ceramics Biennale in France and Japonismes 2018 at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, alongside numerous exhibitions and tea ceremonies across Europe and Asia.
